I recently started reading OOR, the Dutch Music Magazine. There is a monthly article where a famous artist chooses his best albums and gives his comments. De Morgen, the belgian newspaper, used to have a weekly article where a belgian artist could present the music that he likes. They also did a serie on famous people in art, media, ... interviewing them on their musical collection. I always like stuff like that. There is so much music you know, that it's good to use other's people taste and comments. It's good to use filters to discover. On this blog, I will also invite people to present music they like. Not so much famous people, but so much more interesting people.
Name: Stephanie Bos Age:24 Occupation:working student What is your link with music (just a fan, or dj, or ...?): just a big fan

Ever checked people standing on the dancefloor when a party has just started? They feel like dancing, but can’t, cause there aren’t enough people on the dancefloor. They move their heads slightly from the left to the right, on the beat. They smile, they drink something and most of all they are dancing inside, statikly. You can stream it at http://www.esnips.com/doc/3878967b-efb6-4452-9916-1d4970f082ab/Statik-Dancing or download it at http://www.gigasize.com/get.php/-1100251881/Statik_Dancing.mp3
Reverso 68 – Especial Reverso 68 makes nu-disco (don't know how to name it else). It is deep postmodern disco or something like that and it gets me confused. Pioneers I know are Lindstrom and Prince Thomas, Todd Terje and others. I get very contradictional feelings with this nu-disco. Some records are great, some are so boring (like in every genre ofcourse). Though this is such a small, new genre I don't believe it will ever conquer the world. But if you listen to this song or one of my other favourites Eurodans from Todd Terje, you'll understand how nice nu-disco can be. Stardust – The Music Sounds Better With You ( In Miami Horror Mix) I start to hate the original song. I can bear it for maybe once a month maximum, not longer than 4 minutes. But Daft Punk's classic got remixed like I never expected. The In Miami Horror Mix is not so much horror, though more some kind of nu-disco fun. Going much slower than the original it makes me feel like going on a trip through Coney Island in New York.
Laurie Andersons – Oh Superman (M.A.N.D.Y. remix) M.A.N.D.Y. is more than the bestseller “Body Language”. Especially as remixers, the German duo made some great stuff. Like this Oh Superman. Louie Austen – Hoping (Herbert’s High Dub) I just love this song. It is brilliant. It has the perfect beat, the nicest vocal. Please get to know Matthew Herbert, buy his cd’s. He is one of the world’s most fascinating artists, both in his remix as in his own productions. He's manifest on how to make music: http://www.magicandaccident.com/_MH/pccom.php The Orb – Kan Kan I just recently discovered The Orb by their album Okie Dokie It’s The Orb On Kompakt. Got it from the library and it gave me immediately the perfect feeling. This song is one of my favourites. Just simple and great. The Orb is also the owner of the greatest song title Little Fluffy Clouds. It always reminds me of parties in Leuven that were organised under that name. Never been there, but I was always fascinated by their posters. They had the perfect picture of Little Fluffly Clouds (http://www.fluffyclouds.be/v2/index.html) The Postal Service – Such Great Heights (John Tejada Remix) The Postal Service is a postrock band making deep, emotional guitar tracks. When discovering this John Tejada remix I was sure before hearing it this would be good. Tejada always puts the right feeling in such emotional, deep songs. I used to listen hours to one set he ever played in a club and I found on the internet, it’s a shame my pc crashed a few times and I forgot the title of the set. Also check The Postal Service’s song The District Sleeps Alone Tonight. Beck – Cellphone’s Dead (Ricardo Villalobos) I ain’t a big Beck fan, though I love his song Loser. I should check more of his work to judge him overall, but I do find his voice very beautiful. This Ricardo Villalobos mix proves it. It lasts 14 minutes, I only used 3, to make sure you don’t go to Statik Sleeping Mode. Justin Timberlake – What comes around... ( Linus Loves remix) Everybody loves Justin, although many might say they don't. Linus Loves puts his latest single in a nice house environment. Tracey Thorne – It’s all True This everything but the girl sings a good feeling Enya-like popsong. Just fits nicely in. Nicole Willis & The Soul Investigators – Feeling Free (Stringstrumental) Stayed relatively unknown in Belgium is Nicole Willis. She is a great soul singer (although her voice doesn’t appear on this stringstrumental) that I also found back on a Jimi Tenor album (Jimi Tenor & Kabu Kabu present Joystone). Booka Shade vs Plactic Operator – Won’t Back Down This song has a great story. It was Plastic Operator who took the Booka Shade’s song Night Falls and gave it the vocals. They were playing in the studio and while the Booka Shade song was playing, somebody began singing. They liked the result and spread it to dj’s who made it, together with the internet, a real white label hit. Oh yeah, Plastic Operator just released the new album Different Places. So if you like the voice beautifully singing that he won’t back down, you know what to do! The original Won't Back Down is from Tom Petty:
Pepe Bradock – Deep Burnt Very nice track by this Parisian producer. Love his artwork.
Magnus – Jumpneedle – (The Glimmers Remix) This complete Belgian production is one of the nicest remixes I know. The way Mo & Benoelie (The Glimmers) use some of the ingredients of the Magnus Track to build a whole new one based on the shouts of Magnus’ singer Tom Barman is stunning. I hope this takes this statik dancing thing into the first foot-moving. Peter, Bjorn & John – Young Folks (mix by?) Fvieeuw fvieeuw Amy Winehouse – Rehab (Hot Chip remix) Hot Chip will be playing at Dour Festival this summer, it’s going to be hot. They’re known for their nice Indie-electro sound which fits perfectly together with his well known Amy Winehouse track. She grabs the beat, she grabs the beat, …
there is too much music I like and it's too easy to share on the internet. Therefor I mix and write, you can download and read. All mixes will be about an hour long, perfect to burn on a cd or to put on your I-pod. Please get back to me if you'd like to know anything about a particular song, remix, or whatever. And please buy from time to time an album from one of the artists. And please sit back and enjoy ;)
